Colorado Scores Hat-Trick Against Fracking Flood of Misinformation with Two Moratoria and One Fracking Ban

To the Citizens of Colorado,

Today is a monumental victory where you, the good citizens of Colorado activated your authority by voting to prevent the heavily unregulated toxic, oil and gas industry from fracking in Fort Collins, Lafayette and Boulder. You faced off, against a sneaky, money hungry, multinational industry machine and you won! You were inundated like flood waters with misleading and disingenuous oil and gas information with the intent of using money to overpower your personal will and rights. Yet in the face of over $1.3 million spent by this industry, you could not be silenced any longer. You stood up to the industry and Governor Hickenlooper and said: ‘We've had enough toxic, unregulated industry, we are the government now.’

Your strong voice is the culmination of over four years of doing the right thing to protect your family, your neighborhood and the environment. You fought a powerful, misleading, industry that will bully you no more. Fear them not, as they are non-human corporate entities with no regard for your or your health and safety. They have no heartbeat and only operate with dollar bills.

Today I am proud to be a Coloradan and proud to have fought by your side for a very long time. Governor Hickenlooper must listen to you now and your voice must grow louder each and every day. You have assisted your neighbors, reformed the iron fist governance and now you must protect what you have changed. You are all champions and I salute you all!

Lest any elected official hasn't heard our voice, your elections are coming up too and subject to our might.

Did COGA's Tisha Schuller Lie to the Public about Shutting in all Oil and Gas Wells in the Flood Plain?

You be the judge. Tisha stated numerous times that all oil and gas wells were shut in (closed from producing) in September, yet in October, as indicated below, wells are still being shut in according to Noble Energy. It appears that this was a lie and or, there is a large vacancy in communication with operators and COGA. According to Noble Energy, the industry is still looking for oil and gas wells that were impacted by the flood and turning them off (shutting them in) as they find them.

Todd Hartman of the COGCC said it best: 'We simply could not get to all of the affected oil and gas wellpads because they were under water.' This is precisely how the state and industry has failed. Oil & gas wells should not be placed in areas where you cannot get to them to prevent adverse impacts. YOU HAVE FAILED COGA AND COGCC!

We cannot trust COGA as official COGCC data proves that they are not doing what they say.

Colorado Fracking Flood Images Part II - COGCC Must Inspect Subsurface Flowlines

Below are more images from Colorado's first tropical rainstorm that resulted in torrential flood waters that paved its way through the center of ~21,000 active oil and gas wells in Weld County, Colorado. The State of Colorado has only scratched the surface on the collateral damage from placing active oil and gas wellpads in a flood zone. Clearly the State and the industry were not prepared for 'worst case scenarios.'

I have surveyed the flood area several times by air and dozens of times on the ground, and found the flood waters were 5' deep or more in places extending greater than 800' beyond the 'designated' flood plain. The State of Colorado has an obligation to inform the people that they do not know the extent and volumes of petrochemicals and or liquid industrial waste waters that are leaking from flowlines and other subsurface pipes from oil and gas industrial sites. Oil and gas piping is ~ 3' below ground surface (bgs) in most areas, and vast areas of topsoil was washed away exposing large sections of piping. Large trees were found resting on sections of plastic piping which would indicate probable damage from exposure to, and contact from, heavy floating debris.

The state and the industry are reporting surface discharges but fail to mention the infrastructure below ground that has a high probability of being damaged by the flood waters and debris. The greatest probable collateral damage from petrochemical and industrial wastes being discharged may very well lie below the ground. I implore the State of Colorado to fully inspect every inch of the hundreds of miles of flowlines below ground in the flood path to abide by its mission statement to 'prevent adverse impacts to the environment and the public.'
